What Is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free Google tool that allows you to track your site’s performance, identify problems, and improve your site’s ranking in Google.

Search Console can assist you in determining why your site is performing well (or poorly) in organic search results.

It also ensures that Google has access to your material, assists you in monitoring spam issues to keep your site clean, and allows you to submit new content for crawling as well as delete old information.

All in all, It’s a fantastic tool for diagnosing everything about your website from Google’s perspective and it’s a must-have for every website owner regardless of the niche you’re in.

It only takes a few minutes to install Google Search Console to your WordPress site and I’m going to guide you through the process step-by-step.

Input the right URL and click the ‘Continue’ option

You’ll now be prompted to verify your website’s ownership.

There are a few ways to go about doing it, but we’ll go with the HTML tag method because it’s the easiest one by far.

Expand the HTML tag by clicking on it, then copy the code within.

Now you must add the Google site verification meta tag to WordPress in order for Google to validate that you are the website’s owner.

How To Add HTML Tag To Your Site

The best and easiest way to do this is to use a plugin.

This way you do not mess with your WordPress theme.

To start, install and activate the All in One SEO plugin.

Next, go to All in One SEO » General Settings » Webmaster Tools and click on “Google Search Console” .

Then, in the “Google Verification Code” box, paste the code you copied from Google Search Console.

Remember to save your changes by clicking the ‘Save Changes’ button.

Return to Google Search Console’s settings and select the ‘Verify’ option.

Google Search Console will now search your website code for the HTML tag and display a success message.

It should light up green if you did everything right.

However, if you don’t see a success message, you can clear your WordPress cache. This ensures that Google can access the most up-to-date version of your website.

Copying the WRONG code from the chosen method is also an easy mistake that can result in verification failure. For example, if you use Google Analytics and pull the code from the HTML tag, it will not work.

Conclusion

Congratulations!

You have successfully added Google Search Console to your WordPress site.

Please note that it will take a couple of days for your website data to start appearing on Google search console. But either way, you’re good to go!
